Community ASL strives to create a STRESS FREE learning environment with whimsical sentences to ensure you laugh and learn throughout the course. There is almost a Dr. Seuss approach to learning ASL vocabulary as you build silly but helpful sentences with the signs you learn.
It is suggested that you take at least 2 Community ASL sessions before moving on to ASL 101.
Community ASL is a GREAT foundational class!
For each 8 week session, a single handshape is studied to increase proper pronunciation of the language.
Winter 2020, we'll will focus on learning signed vocabulary using the #1 handshape.
Torn Between ASL 101 and Community ASL?
One must first understand how to pronounce words of a foreign language before forming sentences and conversations, right?
Community ASL focuses on "pronunciation" whereas ASL 101 assumes you already know the elements of forming signs.
This is a ground-zero level and great class to begin with if you are absolutely new to signing.
It starts off slow and stays slow to ensure you retain the vocabulary learned in class.
For adults and for teens who have completed 8th grade grammar.
You do NOT need to have had already taken a previous signing class. This class is for the novice signer.
